Lift stations are built to last up to 20 years when proper maintenance and cleaning is kept up. There are some instances where a station can malfunction or stop working entirely. There could be wiring problems or power supply interruptions that can cause flooding, odor or more.
What could go wrong?
Issues with the motor can cause backup and not allow the pumps to move wastewater. This can result in a buzzing sound during the pumping process that can indicate an obstruction or clog. This sound is different, however, than an alarm. When the alarm system goes off, it is signaling a system malfunction or equipment failure. This needs to be attended to right away as the lift station is not able to work at all.
Since the lift station has so many key parts, if one thing stops working it can ruin the whole routine. Broken pipes can cause some dangerous leaks and the affected pipes should be replaced immediately. If things just don't seem to be working right, there might be a flashing light indicating a system error. Running diagnostics can help figure out what's wrong.
