CIPP lining stands for cured in place pipe lining. It is a method of trenchless restoration used in the repairing of existing pipes. With proper maintenance, it can last up to fifty years. This process is done to preserve current pipes that have been damaged by leaks, cracks, intruding roots, and rust. It increases the life span of a pipe system while also possibly preserving building structures and causing little to no damage to property.
How long does CIPP lining last?
CIPP lining can last fifty to sixty years if properly maintained. Epoxy itself has a lifespan of ten to fifteen years on its own without being cured. This is because the liner can slip and become unstable. Several layers of epoxy can be added over time to a pipe that was previously cured. This can make the life span of an existing pipe system last well over 100 years.
How is CIPP lining done?
The pipe repair begins by using textile liners and liquid resin to save a withering pipe. The liners are mixed with resin mixture which is an epoxy base infused with hardeners. The textile liner is then inverted into the pipe with air pressure. At this point, the resin is now on the outside of the existing pipe.
Then, calibration tubes are inverted inside textile liners which can be cured with steam or hot water. During this section of the process, the curing agent activates the resin making it harden and creating a new fitted, smooth, corrosion-resistant pipe wall.
